time
here's some shots of my work
shown recently in Tasmania @ Poimena Gallery, Launceston.
Curated by the amazingly sparkly
Katie Stackhouse,
was a great show and feel lucky to have been
included with such other great artists...

'It's time to reflect on art'
it is time....

the casuarina tree...a snapshot...
here's some happy snaps from my recent exhibition
the casuarina tree...
works on fabric, blankets, paintings...
really an overall patchwork
of broken pieces gathered together
into this tapestry of sewn together fragments
of life from Darwin to Terania to Wanganui
had the good fortune that my work was
seen by these two great men
at thechannongallery.com
who bought and are selling some of my work
but what a huge collective gasp of air it is to have
finished this masters project...
for the first time in three yearsish i have no thought
clouds looming
no invisible lists and deadlines or university paperwork
what a strange freedom it has given me
the double bladed sword of conditional art making
honed with the frame of dissertation and intelligible arguments
now...
back to brush, unrestricted thought forms, free clouds
free roaming research
unlimited creative downloads
and space unparalled
but with this current heat wave
i am mostly turning into a sea creature
or creek slime
enjoying cicada symphonies
a bit of peace and rest
and riding the back log of unprocessed data
that emerges from ones soul
after being in a cage for so long...
there that's my speech for today.
you might find me on warm summer nights
swimming with dolphins.

the labyrinth of line...
...'The distorted line repeated over and again became abstract and transformative, unfolding strange new associations of meaning and difference. In my drawings, lines of trees, branches and stems developed into distorted scars, scratches and bones, reduced forms and the simplest structures...'

emergence of the butterfly....
after a long period
of writing...thinking...drafting...
editing...
feeling frustrated, contaminated and imprisoned...
there is a dawn...
a light of new beginnings...
of returning to the creative practice...
of rediscovering my work
with fresh eyes and new perspectives...
AND...
this almost three year engagement with
the monster of the Masters Research
has given me great learning and
freedom...it must be for something....
all this culminates in a solo show...
happening very soon...
here's the specs:
Would love to see you there if you are
in the country, vicinity or watch this
space and will post
some works...

to landscape to landscape...
to landscape to landscape to buy a fat pig...
home again home again
jiggity jig...
oh yep.
landscape.
how i wish to roll in your horizons
and find lines between your latitudes
the fight with the cloud demons
and battle with the blood of earth
to landscape...
i miss you...
you hear me..
ok
why do you persist??

ghosts of white lines
[re]found these works the other day
paint and dye pot juice on paper
funny how things get lost
then found
you revisit things and find that
there were clues to something
that propel you forward
without being stuck
being in the continuum

rusty...
ok. this blog is as rusty
as my banjo strings
its been an interesting time
feeling the cave and inhabiting it
buT
the 'guvment' gave me a new satellite dish
so now can blog to my hearts content
and catch up on all things
random...oh la la...
thanks nbn...
was good to drop out actually
of the hype, updates and endless drama
that seems to play itself out in cyburbia...
now i re-enter with a reserved demeaner
and less anxiety
realising that reality is far more exciting!!
Art has been as erratic as the weather
ebbing between moments of sunshine
and torrential downpours.
Mostly been writing my exegesis thingy
which is too wordy and messy
and nonsensical
perhaps it is no different to painting...(?)
however, between the gaps
horizons have appeared
making marks with Dorothy Caldwell
was like shaking off the dust
meeting old and new
coming back to the source of the scratch
got to make books and put holes in stuff
paint things burn and sew
am so grateful

catching up on ice...
ice heart freezes and melts, melts and freezes
been a little while between journeys
but this one was
beautiful
to see how water can play with itself
and create all wonderful forms of inextricable
simple and unparalleled beauty
i marvel....
what a true gift to behold
i love that place truly or perhaps this place
that is mother earth's playground
wherever my feet find themselves
it unfolds in always amazing ways
anyway thought i'd share some ice
as we enter easter and it unfreezes itself over there
releasing and bursting forth in new life
and here we prepare for winterness
heart is half frozen
half melting...

mon pays c'est l'hiver...
palettes are useful for not only holding and carrying and shipping
most of our food and goods around the globe...
palettes of the untreated kind can be recycled to make a very serviceable firewood
and furthermore...
while chopping them up you can play with them, reuse them
and paint on them!!
Above are some happy experiments on the humble palette,
amazingly we discovered all sorts of beautiful timbers, hardwoods and grains
so fun to paint and play with...
again...
the path is about reusing what is abundant..
at hand, and sustainable...
i like that.
and recycling. i like that...
oh and painting with just 3 shades
makes an enticing number of colours...
